| Helene Benveniste, MD, PhD Professor of Anesthesiology Department of Anesthesiology Stony Brook University School of Medicine Helene Benveniste, M.D., Ph.D. is currently Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Department of Neurobiology at Duke University Medical Center. July 1, 2001 she will transfer and serve as Full Professor of Anesthesiology at State University of New York at Stony Brook (SUNY-SB) and Scientist at the Medical Department, Brookhaven National Laboratories (BNL). Dr. Benveniste will direct a joint high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging facility for transgenic animal phenotyping focusing on aging and Neurodegenerative diseases at the SUNY-SB and BNL. Further, as a board-certified anesthesiologist, Dr. Benveniste maintains direct patient care responsibility for older adults in areas of orthopedic (regional anesthesia) and neuro-anesthesia care settings. Dr. Benveniste’s research focuses on (1) early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (2) understanding and defining MR contrast mechanisms for relevant pathology in neurodegenerative diseases and (3) neuroinformatics. She was recently awarded a Faculty development award from the New York State (NYSTAR) and a RO1 from the NIH. Dr. Benveniste received her medical degree from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark and her PhD in Neurobiology from Institute of Neuropathology, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. She completed a fellowship in high-resolution Magnetic Resonance Imaging at Department of Radiology, Duke University Medical Center from 1990-1992. Subsequently she competed internship in primary care/Family Medicine followed by a Residency in Anesthesiology at Duke University. She started her faculty appointment as Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at Duke University and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1998. | |
