| Alison A. Moore, MD, MPH Associate Professor of Medicine and Psychiatry University of California, Los Angeles Alison A. Moore, MD, MPH Dr. Moore received a combined MD-MPH degree from Tulane University’s Schools of Medicine and Public Health and Tropical Medicine. She completed a residency in general internal medicine at Rhode Island Hospital. Dr. Moore then completed two fellowship programs at UCLA, a geriatric medicine fellowship and the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program. In 1994, she joined the faculty in geriatric medicine where she is now an Asscoate Professor. In addition to being a Beeson Physician Faculty Scholar she has also received a Mentored Clinical Scientist Award (K23), and a Mid-Career Investigator Award in Patient-Oriented Research (K24) from the National Institutes on Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse. Her research interests initially focused on assessment and management of common geriatrics problems in primary care; presently, the focus is on identification and intervention regarding harmful and hazardous drinking among older persons in primary care. With funding from the Beeson and NIAAA, she has developed and tested a screening questionnaire for at-risk drinking (e.g., alcohol use that may cause harm alone or when combined with selected comorbidities and medications) among older persons. She is now completing a randomized trial testing the efficacy of a brief advice intervention on reducing at-risk drinking in older adults. Dr. Moore also studies the epidemiology of drinking across the life-span, and longitudinal associations between health status and drinking. | |
