Daniel T. Laskowitz, MD
Associate Professor of Medicine (Neurology)
Duke University Medical Center

Dr. Laskowitz received his B.S. in Neuroscience from Brown University in 1987 and his M.D. degree from Duke University School of Medicine in 1991. Following his medical internship at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and Neurology residency at the University of Pennsylvania, he returned to Duke University to complete fellowship training in neurointensive care and stroke. During this fellowship period, he also pursued his research interests examining the role of inflammation and glial activation following stroke and neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer’s Disease.

Dr. Laskowitz joined the faculty of Duke University School of Medicine in 1997, and was appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine (Neurology) the following year. Dr. Laskowitz’s research interests are now focused on examining mechanisms of glial activation and modulation. He is particularly interested in understanding the role of glial activation and oxidative stress following acute brain injury and in neurodegenerative disease. One active avenue of inquiry is the role of apolipoprotein E in modulating the endogenous CNS inflammatory response.
